Residences offer artists the possibility to focus on new work or projects during a concentrated period of time. In the Netherlands it have been artist initiatives who developed a culture of residences that took shape since the 1990's. Meanwhile also art institutions, private initiatives and governmental institutions are offering the facility of an artist-in-residence. Each whith their own profile and conditions, functioning whithin their specific context. As a result, a variety of programs, accomodations, facilities, funding, selection and artist assistance.
Trans Artists wants to support and strengthen the position of residences. By making visible the diversity of the field, the programms, availability in studio spaces, offering insight in the daily practices and organization structures, the Pool offers new entrances to the proffessional circuit of artist-in-residences to artists, residences and their partners alike.
