Photographer Marrigje de Maar at Imagine Gallery
January 2006
Dutch Photographer Marrigje de Maar stayed two times last year as an artist-in-residence at The Imagine Gallery in Beijing in China. She is still overwhelmed by her experiences....
Marrigje de Maar: The studio complex of The Imagine Gallery is located in a small district area within the huge city of Beijing. Staying there it feels like being in a small country village, which is very pleasant. Everyone meets each other in the main shopping street. So, making contact with other artists and locals is quite easy. It is maybe interesting to know that the artist-in-residence program of The Red Gate Gallery and The Pickled Art gallery are situated in this same area. For artists who want to experiment with foundry techniques the Pickled Art Gallery is the place for you.
The Imagine Gallery has two studio apartments available for international artists. Both studios are around 36 m2. The ceilings are 6 meters high and contain a mezzanine, which gives the room an extra spacial dimension. Besides this space there is a kitchenette, a bathroom and internet and telephone acces.
