Cairo Residency Symposium

How to develop honest reciprocity? That was the main question during the Cairo Residency Symposium, a three-day gathering of 86 representatives of the artist-in-residence sector from the Middle East, Africa and Europe, in March 2009.

Description

Townhouse Residency Project was established in 2000 to provide artists with the opportunity to work in a studio in the context of urban Cairo.

Townhouse is located in a renovated three-storey building in downtown Cairo. Together with an adjoining annex and 600 square meter warehouse space, the gallery holds classrooms, studios, a library and bookshop.

A residency at Townhouse is wholly non-prescriptive, while priority is given to proposals rooted in an interest in the resources, both material and human, that urban Cairo and the surrounds may avail to artists.
