Description
Kuona is looking for applications from visual artists from different cultures to participate in 1 - 2 month studio residencies alongside 20 Kenyan artists in Nairobi. As a resident artist you have the opportunity to experience Nairobi, meet and collaborate with Kenyan artists and get to know the many cultural aspects of Kenya. Artists are expected to: spend a reasonable part of your stay working at the Kuona Trust centre, interacting with Kuona Trust artists; conduct at least one community oriented outreach programme or artists workshop; write a short report about their residency; stay for the full duration of the residency; give a visual presentation during your residency to the local artist community.
Technical Information
Small exhibition space, resource room with over 1,500 art related books, wireless connection for personal laptops and three desktop PCs with internet access, PhotoShop, Windows, Adobe Premiere and a colour printer. The office has a photocopier, scanner, 2 digital video cameras and a digital stills camera
Accommodation Information
Accommodation is in a guest house with sitting room, TV, own kitchen and shared garden.
Paid by artist
Kuona does not currently have a budget for these residencies. Only apply if you can fund yourself or seek funding from an organization in your country. Kuona can only accept artists who have medical and travel insurance. The monthly rent for the studio space is 120 euro.
Application Criteria
Nairobi, the capital, is a huge city and is cool in the evenings, warm in the day time, varying from 14 - 30 degrees.
