Description
Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces provides professional support to artists in the early stages of their careers through exhibition, studio and associated cultural exchange and public programs which address the relationship between contemporary art practices and current critical debate. They aim to continually evolve alongside the art and artists it supports, whilst providing a stimulating environment for contemporary art production, presentation, research and the exchange of ideas between artists and audiences nationally and internationally.

Accommodation Information
Studio: 200 Gertrude Street houses a residential studio for visiting international and interstate artists, Studio 18 is a self contained open plan studio and living space, approximately 96m2, with good natural and artificial light. It encompasses a small kitchen equipped with cooking facilities, a private bathroom, mezzanine bed space, telephone/fax, black and white TV and basic furniture.
Paid by host
Rental charges $165 per week (including GST), which includes all outgoing costs, except telephone which is charged separately according to use.
Paid by artist
Artists must provide their own health insurance and travel visa.
Location
The studio is centrally located in an area in which artists, art professionals, academics and students reside, and the locale of many galleries, affordable cafes and restaurants, and is about a kilometre from the central business district of Melbourne. Access to public transport means that most areas of the city and surrounding suburbs can be reached easily.
